MRS expectations for 2023 are promising. As of the signing of the new concession agreement, the Company started a great expansion journey that already took its first steps in 2022, gains more strength in 2023, and will continue for the next few years. MRS is aware that along with the growth expectation comes a great challenge, in terms of managing works, maintaining current outstanding safety rates, continuing to advance in the ESG agenda, aligning new employees and suppliers to its culture, among so many others.
The Company prepared for this moment with a restructuring over the last few years, intensified in 2022: it hired new professionals, made internal promotions, reorganized its support areas, invested in improving infrastructure, processes, tools and training. In 2023, several projects are starting to get off the ground and the results will be gradual.
With the implementation of the investments provided for in the new concession, MRS will have a much larger operation than the current one (expected to double the volume of general cargo and multiply by 7 the volume of container transportation) until 2056, contributing to the Brazilian development resulting from the increased share of the rail modal in the transport matrix (lower impact of truck traffic), increased competitiveness for the domestic production sector (lower transport cost), creation of jobs, heating up of the economy and improvement of the entire domestic logistics system. The benefits will also extend to the environment, with the improvement in the indicator of avoided emissions of greenhouse gases (change in the transport matrix and acquisition of new locomotives less dependent on diesel) and several actions to mitigate the impact of operations that will be promoted by MRS, and to society, with the development of numerous initiatives and behaviors supported by the principles of the new strategic framework implemented in 2022: diversity, integrity, people, customer focus, safety, excellence, agility and openness to the new.
